GoDaddy sucks more than I thought

by Chris

Remember the domain I tried to transfer from GoDaddy, only they set up an impossible scenario in which I couldn’t possibly set everything properly to make the transfer, and was forced to renew the domain with GoDaddy, or lose it?

Now that their 60-day squatting period is over, I’m trying once again to transfer it. Everything is properly set up and it’s supposedly pending, except… it’s not happening. When I go to their control panel, it says they need a confirmation email I’ve already sent, and that the domain is being “updated” and can’t be modified. When I go to my Namecheap control panel, it just says the transfer has been initiated and nothing’s wrong so far.

At this point, the domain isn’t doing so well anyway. I may just let it go. But be forewarned: GoDaddy means “godfather”. They’re like the domain mob or something.

I know I’ve had problems in the past, not with GoDaddy… but I’m sharing :P When I wanted to transfer domain names from Registerfly to Namecheap I had problems too – no problem on the end of NameCheap and Registerfly had said that it had sent the confirmation – but I never got anything. Then after digging around/asking both support at each place – I realized that I had to take the domain name protect off for the DNS – if you have listed your domains with your domain info protected to be anonymous – take that off. Try again and it will work :)

Anyhoo… hope that helps!

There’s more detail on all this in the original article (linked to above), but in a nutshell: the domain locking was the problem last time, because it had an expired email address for me, and their bizarre requirements left me with no way to change it. So I was able to take it off, and the domain has not had privacy for two months.

This time, when I first initiated the transfer, I got a notice that the domain was locked, so I unlocked it and re-initiated. Now everything is just hung up in limbo somewhere, and of course, GoDaddy doesn’t have a 1-800 number, and the last time I called, I held a very long time.

GoDaddy emailed me a couple of days ago, then yesterday the transfer went through. :) Of course, they still have what they charged me to renew that domain when they were holding it hostage, which is why I remain unimpressed.

I agree with you 100% they have given me nothing but greif and bad hosting.
Fist i paid for a 2 year domain name and only got a 3 month one.
Then they billed me 4 times for the same hosting account and only willing to refund 3 out of 4.
They messed up my host setting, i keeps getting this error message: [Host misconfiguration] please contact the admin…
and he never fixed it saying it’s my fault buy a better script!

And after 3 weeks yelling at him he finaly said ok its fixed then it poped up as [Expired holding page] WTFH?? I WANT MY MONEY BACK, my site was only online for 5 months total out of a year.
And to top it all no refund for the 36 months paid on the Premium Plan and not one dime back!
I had to refund over 124 members there money for there paid accounts i was SOOOOOOOOOOO MFPO!!

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE THIEFS!

I’ve been charged for a domain that doesn’t even exist. I parked my domain several years ago but never developed it, and suddenly, after I don’t know how many years, I get a receipt from them for renewal fees. Even more surprising is when I looked for it, and found there is no such domain. Only an opportunity to purchase it. So I asked Go Daddy for a refund. They responded with a bunch of hoops to jump through (which don’t work by the way) and then later tell me th I don’t qualify for a refund because I didn’t ask for it within 5 days of my initial asking for a refund. Huh?

How does this work exactly? They can charge me for a site that doesn’t exist and refuse to refund my money because I didn’t ask for it twice within a certain amount of days?

People really need to know about the unethical business practices of this company. Before doing anything with Go Daddy, especially if it’s free, do some research on line and see how many people have been ripped off.

I hope someone starts a class action suit (the employees already have) because not only do I want my money back, I want this company to straighten up its act, or better yet, go away.

Godaddy is the worst service I’ve ever seen. FREE SERVICES HAVE BETTER SUPPORT! I canceled my website service and it didn’t even ask for a confirmation, they just went in and deleted everything. When I called in to ask them WTF they said it’d cost 150$ to restore, they’re f**king scam artists and if you’re stupid enough to purchase their services you deserve to be taken for every dollar you have.

I’ve been a loyal godaddy customer for three years and at the drop of a hat they basically told me to go f**k myself.

The worst part with GoDaddy is that their websit has too much information and it is very difficult to find what we are looking for. Also very very difficult when you want to setup FTP account. I don’t know what is the reason they kept it very hard to setup http://FTP…Hope godaddy read your blog and improve their services…Best of Luck, Chris

If Godaddy’s 1/50th as bad a hoster as they are registrar, well… my heart goes out to all of you who’ve suffered thru it.
I know how “Successful” they are, but how can they keep it up?
Too many ppl are complaining online about the same Godaddy things.
Godaddy’s only an “attractive” company to someone who doesn’t know better & is attracted by the low prices.
Once you’re in their clutches, Major Aggro- & they make nearly impossible to leave.
